For the first post, I thought that I would share my latest knitting project. It's a fabulous coat designed by Claire Montgomerie. It's in her book "easy baby knits." In the book, it's handsome in navy blue with white buttons, but I would like to use it for more than one child, so I decided to make it red. I also found vibrant buttons at Sarah Jane's Yarn Shop. The edges look like they are wood but they are probably acrylic. I purchased four of them - uniquely colored and shaped: blue, orange, yellow and green. I will post a picture of the buttons soon.
It's my first time reading a pattern by my lonesome, so I'm pretty nervous. I am currently making a swatch. A swatch is a square of garter stitch (a plain knitting stitch) that a knitter uses to measure their gauge. Patterns require a certain gauge to get a correct size. If you don't have that gauge, you have to adjust the pattern. I really hope I have the right gauge. If I don't, I might scream and then spend a day in Sarah Jane's.
Here's the coat. Hope you like it.
